As many of you may or may not know Crystal Mccullars has be battling sclerosis of the liver for many years now. Starting August 5th early in the morning she woke up and had fallen out of bed and hit her head. She assumed she was fine and continued her normal routine for several days. Then August 10th her daughter found her unresponsive on the bathroom floor which lead her to Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Waco Tx. There we got the news that Crystal had a major stroke and a massive brain bleed and pressure that severely injured her brain. She was shortly rushed into surgery to insert a tube that drained the blood and to relieve pressure off her brain. The tube did not work. Only one neurosurgeon would take the chance to do another emergence surgery to remove a section of her skull about 8-9 inches long to 3-4 inches wide to stop the bleeding. Giving her condition her blood does not clot and the neurosurgeon gave her very little chance to make it through the surgery, but we could not give up hope and took the risk. Around 5am August 11th the neurosurgeon came into the waiting room to share the news that Crystal made it through the surgery but giving the severity of her injury she was not expected to make a recovery and showed very little brain activity. As the day progressed Crystal didn't seem to be getting any better. We meet with the doctor at 1pm on August 11th to discuss her situation. As a family we had to decided to take Crystal of life support due to the doctors word that she would have very little function if any at all. She would have to have had a trach put in and a feeding tube. Not to mention a long road to recovery. We as a family asked to have time to discuss our decision. Shortly after Crystal started responding to commands and the doctors were stund! The pressure in her brain had decreased to almost the normal. Crystal was still bleeding but was showing brain activity. For two days straight she slowly improved but following the simple commands of thumbs up and knotting her head yes or no and squeezing our hands . We all surely thought that she was on the road to recovery . On August 13th the family had all went to go get good rest when we hadn't been home for 15 minutes and received a phone call from the hospital. Things had turned for the worst and that she had suffered from another stroke which then caused another brain bleed. The pressure on her brain sky rocketed to very damaging pressures which then she was pronounced brain dead and given no hope to recover. Shortly after the family decided to let Crystal be as comfortable as she could be. We removed anything that would make her uncomfortable in anyway. She went on to live for close to 48 hours breathing on her own in absolute no pain surrounded by her loved ones who never left her side. She then passed away on August 15th 2017 at 8:52pm.
