Greetings all
My name is Crawford Shortt, and this year I turned 60. For a few months previously I had been experiencing some nagging pain in my right knee. As an avid cyclist I would notice it on long rides, and as I work retail, by the end of the day would be miserable.
I tried to deny the pain.
It did not work.
So after much pushing by my dear wife, I went to see an orthopedic surgeon.
He told me what I did not want to hear. Osteoarthritis.
Remedy Total Knee Replacement.
Ever since I can remember my right leg has, at the knee , bent outwards, and just by living and getting old the cartilage that was there has worn down so that my knee joint is now bone on bone. The bend in my leg has become more pronounced.
The first bend of my knee in the morning is nauseating and it gets worse during the day.
My range of motion is extremely limited. So, on my doctor’s recommendation I am going to Physical Therapy to try and increase my flexibility, before I undergo the operation. The physical therapy is grueling and requires a $50 copay per visit.
On my last visit, fourth out of six, my therapist my concerned about the SIZE of my knee. It is very swollen.
The average TKR costs about $40,000. Even with insurance, considering co-pays and deductibles the cost is enormous .My copay is $750 and the deductible is $6000. This does not include and “hidden” fees such as anesthesiologist, medical assistant and facility charges. I also get to pay 20% of any other bills that my insurance does not cover.
So on behalf of my wife, Marie, and I we are asking you to consider helping us fund my operation.
