Kyle Owen's life changing accident.

Hey, my name is Sam and I'm putting together this fundraiser for my best friend Nick Owen and his family in particular his eldest son, Kyle.

On the morning of the 24th of August 2021, Kyle (18 years old) eldest son of Nick and Aimee was travelling to work in his car in the Gold Coast when he was involved in a horrific head on collision with another vehicle.

Kyle suffered from multiple physical injuries including but not limited to, multiple fractures and breaks both above and below the knees in both legs, broken humerus, broken wrist, nose, shoulder damage and multiple lacerations to his limbs, face and body. The damage to the vehicle was so extensive that he was required to be cut out of the car as he was trapped inside.

Unfortunately Kyle also suffered significant trauma to his head and brain and as such was placed into an induced coma in order to help him heal. He is currently still in this coma and is making small steps daily that is showing how much of a fighter he really is. However, this is a waiting game to see the extent of damage and the amount of impact this will have on the rest of his life.

For those that know Nick, he is not only a Australian Army Veteran that puts back into his community and helps young Australians through his work as a youth mentor with Veteran Mentors he is first and foremost an amazing father to his 2 boys. He’s also an absolute rock for his family and friends. Nick is the first person that people turn to when they need a helping hand and because of his stoic nature he is also the first person to refuse help or not ask for it even when needed.

The road ahead for the Owen family is going to be a long and difficult one to navigate. Through the months and months of physical therapy that is going to be required to the years of psychological and occupational therapy that will likely need to be carried on for the rest of Kyle's young life. As you can imagine this isn't a cheap road to go down and as such below is a non exhaustive list of potential uses of the funds that we will be raising to go towards.

- a van/vehicle with wheelchair access in order to chauffeur Kyle around immediately.

- modifications to the family home to make it wheelchair friendly and safe.

- funds towards medical expenses incl. Psychological support.

- funds to support the family in their financial needs whilst caring for Kyle and not working.

In saying all of the above… Nick and his family will have a new way of life and will be doing what is needed with a smile of their face because they still have Kyle!!!

Thanks so much for reading this far and for donating. You're all absolute legends and are really helping out a deserving family.

Thanks so much.
