Crusty's Place

Crusty’s Place

Crusty who our sanctuary is named after, came to us at 4 days old.  A rogue male cat had killed the rest of her litter, but her father Jake fought off the rogue male and brought her to me knowing that I would take care of her as I had been doing for him.  She had such a loud mouth but was unable to eat.  She was taught to eat from a plate, and she learned to suck off that plate with milk replacer and some salmon flavored food.  She obtained her name by sucking the food up so fast that she would blow bubbles through her nose and then the food would crust around her mouth – hence Crusty Bubbles – her full name. She never became a full-blown cat – she stayed small with small legs but became the ruler of the roost so to speak. As she got older she began to have a few health problems, but finally succumbed at the age of 8 to a rare blood disorder as diagnosed by our veterinarian.

At that time a promise was made to her that cats who came to the sanctuary would be cared for and fed, and if they were able to be placed for adoption, they would find their forever home.

So Crusty’s Place became a sanctuary. At the present time, there are a number of cats, 2 goats and a 29-year-old donkey named Ralphie, 8 doves and a recent addition of Henry a rooster who was rescued from a cockfighting ring, and who enjoys classical music.  Some of the cats are being socialized for adoption, however, several will remain at the sanctuary due to health issues and age, such as Jug Head who as gone totally blind; and Precious who survived a massive rattlesnake bite and has an eating problem.  The vet could not believe she actually survived…but she is doing well here at Crusty’s Place.  All animals at Crusty’s place are offered shelter from the storm and serenity, whether they move to their forever home or remain at the sanctuary. No animal should have to suffer or die alone – our promise to Crusty.

We are raising funds for expanding the pens, fans, veterinary bills, food, fencing, and a down payment assistance towards a piece of property where more animals can be assisted in their time of need.
