Crushing Carlie's Cancer
Donation protected
Can’t think of what to get someone who has everything this holiday season? Might we suggest a donation in their honor?
Brandie’s world was turned upside down on May 13, 2022, when, after months of hospitals dismissing her daughter’s inability to breathe as “asthma” and lingering COVID symptoms, Carlie was diagnosed with cancer. Several tests later, we learned it was stage 4 non-Hodgkin B-cell lymphoma. Carlie had only just turned 20 less than a week prior. It was a sucker punch to the gut wrapped in a horrendous case of déjà vu. Nineteen years ago, Brandie's sister Lani passed away at age 19 after battling non-Hodgkin anaplastic T-cell lymphoma. Thankfully, the oncologists (from the same group practice, no less) have learned much since then!
Not wanting to share her struggles or ask for handouts, Brandie immediately rejected suggestions to start a GoFundMe. However, after months of attempting to carry the weight of working, being the primary parent for both a daughter fighting cancer and a young teen, paying high gas prices to drive to/from hospitals, often late at night after working a full shift, with medical bills rolling in and no end in sight, she has finally caved.
Please help Carlie Crush Cancer by letting her know a community is rooting for her by helping her mom spend time with her without her mom having to worry about crippling debt. No amount is too small to send a big message of support. All funds will go to pay for medical, travel, and living expenses. Thoughts, prayers, crossed fingers, good juju, or whatever works for you are also much appreciated!
Also, please HELP get this message out by sharing it with your friends and family! TIA!
Update (11/26/22): Carlie is progressing in her battle against cancer; however, chemo damaged the lining of her small intestines, leaving her with two gaping wounds on her stomach (called fistulas). After a long and painful stay at the hospital with multiple emergency surgeries, she was able to go home on November 2. Unfortunately, she had to be readmitted to the hospital on Thanksgiving Day due to vomiting and stomach pains. Her gallbladder is enlarged and needs to be removed. To do so, they want to see more improvements on the cancer front first. They intend to put a drain in it until it can be removed.
