Crush Cancer #TeamBode

Hey, Hi! Cancer is NO fun for anyone involved. It's a long difficult road sadly traveled by many. My purpose here is to alleviate some of the stressors for my parents since I did not win the most recent PowerBall.

NonHodgkins Lymphoma invaded my Dad's healthy body and started taking over June 2017. It took quite awhile to get the pinpoint diagnosis, but we know it, we hate it and plan on kicking major NHL ass. Milton, Mortimor (aka Morty) and Sully are being evicted, along with any other friends they may have brought along. Yes, I named the masses. Because why not, laughter is the best medicine. And when was the last time you befriended a Milton, Morty or Sully?

Robert (aka Bode, pronounced /bōd/) who will be 59 this September and Donna who will be 57 in December are the creators of the magnificent clan pictured above!

Of course they are special to myself, my brother and our kiddos but I love to be able to say the parental units are special to many of our friends! We've got an AMAZING support group for well wishes, thoughts and prayers (however, the more the better, we will take all we can get). So I thought it would be a grand idea to try to help with the financial stress of Cancer. Cancer, cancer, cancer - such a dirty nasty word.  Anyway, my Papa is self employed at a small local business (because we love those and need more around) which means that Short Term Disability is not an option. My Mama is also sort of self employed as she works for a great group of Attorneys doing their title searches when needed and she is essentially a subcontractor for an owner of a Title Company. Oh, and we love him too!

(PS - I love you if you're still reading... yes, there's more)

Bode cannot work for 6 months. Cannot attend my doggie's 2nd birthday on Sept. 9th, my youngest daughter's 4th birthday on Sept. 15th, my brother's birthday on Sept. 23 nor his very own birthday on Sept. 24th! The family will not be trick-or-treating together for Halloween, will not be attending my oldest's nephew's 14th birthday on Nov. 3rd, my oldest daughter's 11th birthday on Nov. 13th, we will not be sitting around the table giving thanks to God that Bode IS curable and we will miss him on my Mom's birthday December 10th. Now the big one -- my whole family loves Christmas and sadly, we will not all be waking up together this year to see what Santa brought everyone. No ringing in 2018 together, or celebrating my 30 something birthday on January 11th, or singing Happy Birthday to his daughter-in-law on January 26th for her 30 something birthday. We are family oriented people.  We do tons together and celebrate everything together. It hurts me to think of all the events my Dad will miss. We'll be gathered, but he will not. I keep telling them IT'S ONLY TEMPORARY, IT'S ONLY TEMPORARY but I have to keep reminding myself the same. Because it still hurts.

Tomorrow, Sept. 1 (which happened to be Robert & Donna's FIRST date 39 years ago!) Robert will have a port inserted in his chest to begin his first round of chemo. He will be admitted for 5 days then get to come home for 16 days. And he will not be allowed to mow his beloved grass nor wash his beloved vehicles which is tragic to him. No, not the fact that he HAS TO BEAT CANCER! Tragedy struck when he was told no mowing or washing cars. Only my Daddy!

This regimine will continue for 6 months as long as he tolerates all the medicines well. In for 5, out for 16, in for 5, out for 16. Press repeat.

We live in Kittanning/Ford City, PA. UPMC Shadyside Hospital is about 45 minutes away depending on the day/hour/minute for traffic. You have to pay for parking (visitors) and for food. Gas is currently $2.69. Somehow I feel the driving is going to be the most expensive part of this fight!

I'm starting to plan a benefit for my Papa & Mama and hopefully host it very soon! This is merely for all the anonymous generous souls out there, family and friends who live afar and anyone who wants to help donate. I'd love to be able to provide 10 baskets. I have no problem making them up, I just need the funds!

Any and all help is MUCH APPRECIATED. I know there are still good people in this world.
