25k for Keira

Donation protected
Keira Gayowsky is a happy-go-lucky kid, and a very important member of the Jean Vanier Elementary family (of which I am a proud member).  She also has been fighting a very difficult battle for the past year.  Keira has Idiopathic Colon Inertia, and has been in isolation at McMaster Children's Hospital for the past 9 months.  Along with surgeries to try and correct her condition, Keira has had several battles with infections and complications that have made her fight especially difficult.

Because of the intensity of treatment Keira has faced, a tremendous emotional, physical, and financial strain has been faced by her family.  Much of the equipment needed to help Keira deal with the effects of her condition are not covered by OHIP.

To help Keira and her family "lighten the load" of a severe childhood illness like she has been facing, I will be undertaking my first marathon swim, 25km, from Pottahawk Point in Lake Erie, to the beach in Port Dover.  I was inspired to do this after pace-swimming for Record-Breaking marathon swimmer, 16-year old Annaleise Carr.  Annaleise has graciously agreed to swim this distance with me, as well (for a Great Lake Swimmer like her, it should be a "piece of cake").

We will be undertaking the swim on Sunday, September 14, 2014 (weather permitting), and hope to complete the task in 10-12 hours.  My personal fundraising goal is to raise $100 for every km we swim, for a total of $2500 for the Gayowsky family.

Please support with whatever you are able; and keep Keira smiling!
