Crowdfunding for Riskii’s Candy Cream

Donation protected
I am a small business owner specializing in natural skincare. Riskii’s Candy Cream is a line of products that helps men and women achieve skincare goals naturally. I started this business because I discovered Shea butter as a natural moisturizer and my friends responded well to a batch I whipped for them.

Aside from my business, I have 3 children and am in school for Business Administration. I am the first person in my family to ever own a business. I don’t have resources or mentors to look to, I am literally a fish out of water. Google taught me the difference between an EIN and a DUNS number and how to use them. I didn’t have a counselor to show me how to obtain an LLC. It’s all been a learning experience as well as humbling.

Technically, I started in 2017, but insecurity and fear kept me from establishing myself or properly marketing my product. A year later, when I decided it was time to take this serious, I dove right in (without doing any research) and wasted a lot of time and money. I bought a website domain and didn’t know the first thing about coding. I bought a photo box and didn’t even have a camera to take photos with. I made labels even though I’d never designed a graphic in my life. But, I love that part of my history the most.

I started with whipped Shea butter because my little sister suffered from severe eczema and the batch I made helped her tremendously. After I learned the harsh ingredients and negative side effects to lotion and Vaseline, making and using a lightweight natural cream moisturizer was a no brainer. For my customers who do not have especially sensitive skin, I get to have fun with fragrance oils to give fun and flirty scents in the hotter months, then crisp and nutty scents in the cooler months. Confident in my product, I then added body scrubs for my “sweeties” (customers) with dry and flaky skin and even feminine wash! But, my most prized product is my acne-fighting Goat Milk & Honey Soap Bar with proven results for my customers with a dedicated skincare routine!

After being gifted a social media marketing guide, I followed other small, Black-owned natural skincare businesses to observe their branding and marketing techniques.  I noticed a trend in my observation: I had no connection with the owners because their branding didn’t reach me in a way that said “This product is for me.” From that day forward, my marketing was a reflection of myself; urban skincare, where culture and creativity collide to enhance self-care for all.

In short, I wanted the “round the way” girls to feel comfortable with my brand.

The girls that love Beyoncé and Ari Lennox but don’t shy away from Meg or Cardi. The girls that live for Sunday morning brunches after Saturday night twerking. The girls like me! Using songs by Gucci Mane and The Last Mr. Bigg to advertise my products connects me to that audience.

All of the products I sell are handmade by me. I do not purchase them wholesale from a vendor. I put a lot of love into what I do and it’s slowly but surely paying off.

The purpose of this crowdfund is to build capital and stay ahead of demand for products.

Your donations will afford me the opportunity to get ahead of crucial business expenses such as wholesale supplies, building the business credit, and marketing, all vital areas of a successful business.

All support, from donations to sharing of my campaign, are welcomed and greatly appreciated. I thank each of you for your continued support of my brand and my mission.
