Can you help me? I'm a juvenile crow who had a really bad day not long ago. I'm not sure what happened but now I have a fractured scapula (shoulder blade) and maybe some health problems from not being able to fly right and get good food. A good samaritan picked me up and got me to a wildlife rehabilator who is trying to get me back home in the wild.
I'd be really grateful if you could help.
It's going to be a long slog, I'm told. First I have to spend two weeks with this masking tape on my wings so the fracture can heal. Then comes physical therapy and finally a stint in a flight cage. I also need medications and nutritious food.
That all costs a lot of something called money. I'm hoping maybe you might have some that you could share.
Why help a crow? Well, at the risk of sounding immodest, we are awesome. We have a complex social structure. I live with my parents and siblings, who are wondering what happened to me. Some of my older brothers and sisters stuck around to help raise me and I'd like to get home to help with Mom and Dad's next batch of babies, as nesting season is beginning just about now.
We're also very intelligent: we recognize faces (especially people we don't like) and even name humans with different calls so we can keep track of who is coming and going in the neighborhood.
Finally, we love eating garbage and vermin--both things you human don't like. So we're actually kind of nice to have around.
