Crop Irrigation Against Hunger - UGANDA

Donation protected

Hi, I'm Tiara Crouse in Phoenix, Arizona raising funds for an irrigation pump and supplies for Echo-pham Permaculture Center in Hoima, Uganda, managed by Nashif Ahmed. I am a friend of Nashif's and the originator of this fundraiser, since this platform is not supported outside of the United States.

Echo Pham Permaculture was created, and is managed, by student Nashif Ahmed, whom I met when he reached out to me through a mutual friend to develop a grant proposal to support agricultural development in his village of Hoima. The grant, developed for the Ugandan Ministry of Agriculture, included a comprehensive approach to permaculture skills for youth, renewable energy production, and ecological/economic analysis of food production. It was focused on both the production of food crops for immediate consumption and teaching youth to continue sustainable agricultural practices for the future. Our submission for funding was unsuccessful, although the need has only grown more dire during the current drought, which is complicated by climate instability and the preparation for oil drilling in the area. Uganda is 18th in the world for food insecurity according to the Global Food Security Index (GFI) and has nearly 1.4 million refugees and asylum-seekers—representing the largest refugee population on the African continent. Daily and unrelenting hunger is a constant condition for children and elders in his village, including his own grandmother and siblings. Ahmed's agriculture work also attempts to support a local community organization, Help Orphans for Future Nation (HOFFN), desperately trying to provide food to orphans in the village and surrounding area. Nashif and his friends have been trying to irrigate crops by hand, but gourds, squash, grains and other vegetables are withering in the fields. He is asking for support to purchase a motorized irrigation pump to pump water from a nearby river--while still flowing--and other supplies, as they withstand this devastating drought.

Please help in whatever way you can. All funds will go directly to Nashif for this purpose.

Thank you from Nashif Ahmed, the people of Hoima, and me.
