CRITICAL HELP FOR LEO AND FAMILY
Please stop and look at this appeal for a critically disabled father and his family.
Everyone has a bad day or even a bad year, but when Leo Castagnaro came back to God about three years ago, his new-found faith was put to the test.
St. Benedict Monastery in Still River, MA, is writing this on behalf of Leo and his family so that you can see how truly critical this situation is.
Leo, his wife April, and their daughter Catherine, have been struggling financially for several years because of Leo's serious health issues. April suffered a back injury helping patients at a rehab facility, but she is now working part-time (thanks be to God) as a pharmaceutical tech. Leo has multiple very critical health issues: degenerative nerve system, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart problems, memory problems, and seizures.
Pressures from his landlord and renting neighbors to get him and his family out of their residence landed Leo in the hospital several times in the last year, with three mini-strokes and multiple seizures and a heart attack. The politics involved won't allow for legal actions to challenge the rent-raising and harassment they are enduring.
He can't pay the new rent much longer, and daily social struggles are destroying what is left of his compromised nervous system. All his doctors testify that he will surely die soon if he doesn't move. He can rent again in another place, but his doctors all recommend buying a small house. The monthly mortgage payments would be lower than his current rent and he could live a quieter life with the much less social interaction if he were in his own home.
BUT . . . a huge obstacle is that we need $8,000 for the downpayment and move!! A special mortgage has brought our needs down from $40,000 to $8,000 !!! The doctors are urging him to move before another stroke leaves him dead or totally helpless.
Even now as an officially disabled person he still is able to volunteer his time to help the community, and his talents are many!This could end also if his condition becomes any worse.
