Sou a filha mais velha de quatro irmãos, a terceira mais nova de dezassete. Cresci numa família monoparental, vítima do patriarcado, do sexismo, da misoginia, do racismo e da segregação. Mesmo sem saber como nomear tudo o que via e vivia, sempre soube que não queria ser mais uma negra em Portugal, mais a Negra.

Não queria ser a mulher negra invisibilizada, que pouco ou nada sonha, a mãe solo, a doméstica, a que acorda de madrugada e regressa a casa tarde, exausta. Não queria ser a mulher que vive na solidão ou solitude, incompreendida, a que é mãe de todos, a que dá colo mas pouco recebe.

Cresci a ver esta realidade em casa e fora dela. Aprendi a acreditar que a maior conquista possível seria tornar-me gerente da Zara, porque não me era permitido sonhar. Fiz tudo "como deve ser". Apesar de não me considerar especialmente inteligente, fui muito esforçada. Na escola, cheguei a ser considerada a melhor aluna, um título que me deu a sorte de cruzar o caminho de professores que acreditaram em mim e me ajudaram a contrariar o destino reservado a tantas meninas negras na periferia.

Um desses anjos foi a professora Cristina Cruz, que me mostrou que eu podia sonhar com a licenciatura. Contra todas as probabilidades, consegui licenciar-me. Mas, logo após a licenciatura, o que mais temia aconteceu: deparei-me grávida, sem emprego, sem casa e sem namorado. Enfrentei a maternidade solo. E ali, no meio do estigma, do preconceito e da crueldade de uma sociedade que não perdoa as mulheres em geral e negras em particular, especialmente as mães a solo, encontrei força na minha dor.

Foi essa força que me fez, a 10 de maio de 2017, aos oito meses de gravidez, criar o CBA. Na altura, não era uma plataforma, mas um espaço onde as mulheres negras pudessem sonhar, fazer ouvir as suas vozes e acreditar, mesmo quando o sistema insistia em subalternizá-las.

Hoje, oito anos depois, o CBA transformou-se num verdadeiro ecossistema. Já impactámos mais de 3.000 mulheres empreendedoras, organizámos mais de 20 eventos e conectámos mais de 4.000 mulheres africanas e afrodescendentes. Ajudámos a criar negócios, fortalecer parcerias e, acima de tudo, a salvar vidas.

Mas sabemos que ainda há muito por fazer. Chegou a hora de levar o CBA a outro patamar. Queremos criar um espaço físico para Reconhecer e destacar as conquistas, talentos e contribuições das mulheres negras e afro empreendedoras, Incentivar negócios e iniciativas liderados por pessoas afrodescendentes através de hubs de desenvolvimento e capacitação, melhorar e desenvolver mais redes de apoio e colaboração dentro da comunidade, gerar benefícios que vão além do local, impactando positivamente a sociedade em várias dimensões.

I am the eldest of four siblings and the third youngest of seventeen. I grew up in a single-parent family, a victim of patriarchy, sexism, misogyny, racism, and segregation. Even without knowing how to name everything I saw and experienced, I always knew I didn’t want to be just another Black woman in Portugal, but the Black woman.

I didn’t want to be the invisible Black woman, the one who dreams little or not at all, the single mother, the domestic worker, the one who wakes up at dawn and comes home late at night, exhausted. I didn’t want to be the woman who lives in solitude or loneliness, misunderstood, the one who mothers everyone, the one who gives but rarely receives.

I grew up witnessing this reality at home and outside it. I was taught to believe that the greatest achievement I could hope for was becoming a Zara store manager, because dreaming wasn’t something granted to me. I did everything “by the book.” Even though I never considered myself particularly intelligent, I worked hard. At school, I was often named the best student, a title that gave me the chance to meet teachers who believed in me and helped me defy the fate that awaits so many Black girls in the suburbs.

One of those angels was Professor Cristina Cruz, who showed me I could dream of earning a degree. Against all odds, I graduated. But right after completing my degree, the thing I feared most happened: I found myself pregnant, unemployed, homeless, and without a partner. I faced single motherhood. And in the midst of stigma, prejudice, and the cruelty of a society that doesn’t forgive women in general, and Black women in particular—especially single mothers—I found strength in my pain.

It was that strength that led me, on May 10, 2017, eight months pregnant, to create CBA. At the time, it wasn’t a platform but a space where Black women could dream, make their voices heard, and believe—even when the system kept insisting they remain subordinate.

Today, eight years later, CBA has become a true ecosystem. We’ve already impacted over *3,000 women entrepreneurs, organized more than 20 events, and connected over 4,000 African and Afro-descendant women. We’ve helped create businesses, strengthen partnerships, and, above all, save lives.

But we know there’s still much to be done. It’s time to take CBA to the next level. We want to create a physical space to recognize and celebrate the achievements, talents, and contributions of Black women and Afro-entrepreneurs, to foster businesses and initiatives led by Afro-descendants through development and capacity-building hubs, to expand and enhance support networks within the community, and to generate benefits that extend beyond the local level, positively impacting society on multiple dimensions.
