For those of us who were able to attend the memorial service at Sumner Memorial High School it was obvious the impact that this compassionate and comical man had on everyone he came into contact with. The above obituary goes into detail the amount of hearts he touched throughout his lifetime. He was a passionate teacher, a devoted coach, a loyal friend, an irreplaceable co-worker, and a vital part to our downeast community. He left behind two amazing daughters, both of whom, he loved dearly and without measure. Paige as we know was his hero. He always admired the strength and kindness she possessed on an everyday basis. Whytne was his go-getter and his shining star.
Walter passed unexpectedly and in the hole of his absence his daughter Whytne, 21 years old, has taken on the responsibility of the expenses for his death along with the mortgage for the home and its repairs. She currently volunteers at Sumner in the same program that her father was a part of. She also goes to school at The University of Maine at Machias to complete her own teaching degree. She is the most caring person I know and is the first one to offer help to others when they are in need, as well as the last one to ask for help. She loves her students and takes pride in making a difference in their lives.
Myself, Kiandra Barnes, and the rest of Whytne's close friends would like to help lessen the burden of the death of her best friend and father by decreasing the overwhelming financial burden that this young lady is now facing.
