Creative Reuse Center

Donation protected
Please consider donating to help us start a Creative Reuse Center in Norfolk.  Our initial campaign goal is to raise $1000 to cover the start-up costs to establish a non-profit.

Q + A

Is my donation tax deductible?
At this point, no, the donation is not tax deductible because we've not yet submitted our application to register as a non-profit, subsequent donations may be tax deductible.

What is the money going towards?
We estimate a $600 IRS application fee and a $100 Commonwealth of Virginia application fee.   Plus other associated costs, ie. registering a domain, establishing a bank account, copies, postage, notary, etc. Any funds raised over our goal will roll over into phase 2, which is securing a space and build out.

What is a Creative Reuse Center?
Creative Reuse Centers are places where scrap or unwanted materials can find new life. Some people describe it as a secondhand art and craft supply stores. Often, you can find much more including odds and ends from around the home, school supplies, tools, containers, old paintings, DIY gear and almost anything that could be used to create something new. Though many regular thrift stores offer a small selection of craft supplies and other tools, you're more likely to find exactly what you're looking for in a center specifically for arts and crafts.

Who benefits from a Creative Reuse Center?
Everyone in the community benefits from a Creative Reuse Center! Artists, Craftspeople, Entrepreneurs, Students, Teachers, and everyone in the community will be able to purchase craft supplies at a huge savings over traditional crafts stores, which are largely inaccessible to those who rely on public transit.  Bringing an affordable arts and crafts store into Norfolk would mean increased access to supplies for the approximately 250,000 people who call Norfolk home.  Community artists can also find a home in a local artists gallery.

What are the environmental benefits?
A Creative Reuse Center diverts an enormous amount of material out of the waste stream.  Materials that may have been thrown out, discarded or simply destroyed are now used again.
