Creating garden ecosystems

As a part time Environmental Science student in my 40's studying an Integrated Masters in Environmental Science as well as diplomas in Environmental Management and Environmental Legislation and Policy, and as a student member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) I have been working on a project designed to look at our gardens as an ecosystem but also as a way of creating a self-sufficient habitat in varied ways. This project delivers an abundance of produce but also enables nature to work alongside, and within, the produce beds. I am passionate about developing this project further by expanding into local communities and am looking to create 6-8 projects for other people.

Using my passion for helping others and for the environment, people invite me to take over areas of their gardens or greenspaces. I then design and create a combined ecosystem of wildflowers, herbs, fruit and vegetables which become an interconnected garden area that combines habitats for insects and pollinators. Combined with the food production this encourages nature back into gardens and green spaces, boosting biodiversity and becoming more eco-friendly reducing their carbon emissions. All this serves to create spaces where balance is brought back to nature.

Your donations will go towards developing these projects for people that need support getting started and will help to provide for families within the local area. Produce will be donated to local communities, food banks and community fridges, as well as returning to those that have donated the land and greenspaces and these people will be taught how to manage and develop it for years to come.

Your donations will go towards tools, seeds, fencing and equipment that will be required in the setup of the projects, along with a small reimbursement to cover expenses such as time and travel. No donations will be used to purchase or rent land as this is solely with the intention of helping people to develop their own spaces free of charge.

The projects will develop my project management experience as well as help me to educate people into creating and developing areas for themselves. If you wish to help donate anything else such as time or equipment, please comment below and I will be happy to work side by side with communities and businesses to help bring food and nature into peoples lives. It is my passion and aim to educate and encourage people and their communities to connect themselves confidently with nature understanding the relationships between managing spaces, planting, biodiversity and food production. Ultimately doing all this in a way that is naturally respectful of the environment.
