Our little orphanage has been evicted from our rented property. We have moved operations to the managers home, but due to this just being a hut with a small yard, it is far from easy to take care of our 60+ children. We need your help to extend the house, build a proper garden and erect a school house/dorm for our children!
What is BFO?
Bright Future Orphanage was founded in 2015 by Bright Byamukama.
The orphanage is located in the mountain village of Kabungo, near Lake Bunyoni and is close to Kabale, the nearest major city.
Approximately 60 children between the ages of 1-14 find a daily meal, minimal medical care and rudimentary education at the orphanage.
Most children have lost their parents (due to illnesses such as HIV, typhus, cholera or malaria) and live with relatives, who place them in inhuman circumstances, because there are no resources available and these families themselves tend to look after several children.
From disrespect over lack of love to tormenting the children, they are not only health but also mentally endangered. The children can not go to school due to lack of school supplies, clothing and poor nutrition and often suffer from illness themselves. The relatives of the children almost never give any food to them.
The communities Buhumba, Kabera and Kyondo are direct neighbors of the orphanage. These communities are suffering from heavy rainfall due to the progressing climate change. These often lead to destruction of belongings, severe erosion and crop failure. Hunger and diseases such as AIDS, malaria, dysentery and cholera are, as already mentioned, widespread in the area. There are no other NGOs nearby and Bright Future Orphanage is the first orphanage of its kind in the area. There are some churches in the area, but religion is not a big topic and therefore their influence and support is almost nonexistent. People live in Eastern Uganda regardless of their religious backgrounds and are coined by ethnic tradition in small communities.
What can BFO do at the moment?
In the development of the orphanage, Bright, with whom we work directly, faced a problem due to lack of seed capital. Above all, rental costs and food costs are difficult to provide. So children were trying to eat in the neighborhood, and as some people did not know what Bright was doing, there were attempts to sabotage our work. So far, there has been no full acceptance of our respectively Bright's work. Nonetheless, some neighbors now understand the importance of the orphanage for the children.
Through online portals, the founder himself has learned to speak better English and started teaching the children simple knowledge through a few rudimentary exercises and songs. Especially the children who suffer from diseases, have improved their health status through psychological support and care.
Bight operates the orphanage alone (with our help) and has no financial means to hire workers. We would like to build a team, but at the moment it is really only about the minimum needs: food and care. However, there are many tasks that we need helpers for (such as trained teachers). Above all, we need our own land to build a school, dormitories, clinic, water tanks, and a library that would make the organization an educational center, not just a survival center.
So far, 67 children have been cared for at the orphanage and at the school in 2018. The children are divided into a baby group a children group and a teenage group. The room is unfortunately limited. Some children are also exposed to child labor and some are ignored by their new guardians. As already indicated, the children are sometimes forced to sleep on the floor, without beds, which has resulted in wounds and injuries. There are also a not insignificant number of physically and / or mentally handicapped children in all age groups.
OUR BIGGEST URGE/NEED:
As per above, we have been evicted for the property we rented. We need to urgently create a SAFE space for our kids.
WE WILL RECEIVE ALL FUNDS INTO THE GERMAN BANK ACCOUNT OF OUR REGISTERED NGO AND THEN TRANSFER THE MONEY TO UGANDA VIA SWIFT OR ANOTHER TRANSFER SERVICE SUCH AS EXCHANGE4FREE.
