Oliver's American Adventure

Hi my name is Matthew Taylor, in March this year my 5 year old son Oliver was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma in his Bladder and Prostate area, Rhabdomyosarcoma is a really rare form of Cancer (last year there were 250 cases in the whole of the USA, and it is even rarer to be in the Bladder area, it is normally in the head or neck area).
Following Surgery early in July to remove the Tumour, our Consultants at Great Ormond Street Hospital have recommended him for Proton Beam Therapy, (as traditional Radiotherapy has severe side effects on young growing bones etc.) this is very specialist for children and only available in the United States. A Proton Beam machine is being built at University College Hospital London in 2018.
We are travelling to Oklahoma City for Oliver's treatment on the 20th August and will be in the US for 8-10 weeks, the NHS are covering the cost of the treatment, but the main reason for this page will be the living costs etc while we are away, I am self employed as a wall and floor tiler and my wife is a nurse, she has been off work since March full time caring for Oliver and our 2 year old daughter, I have tried to be there with him for as much of his treatment as possible, and haven't been able to work as much as normal, and will obviously have no money coming in while we are away to cover day to day living expenses both here and during his treatment in the US, so many people have asked how they can help and where they can give a donation etc., this is the reason for setting up this page, any help is so much appreciated I cannot tell you.
As you can see from the picture Oliver is a typical young boy and coping with Chemotherapy and extended Hospital stays amazingly well, we are treating the trip as an adventure and he's quite excited by it especially going on an aeroplane again!!
