Craig Steven Greshaw III was born 2/23/17 to Craig and Arlynne. That day changed our lives forever. On a random ultrasound at 20 weeks pregnant my Sister in Law was informed of an irregularity in her baby's heart. After many scans and specialist appointments she was informed that her baby, should she carry out a successful pregnancy, would have Heterotaxy Syndrome. This is a 1 out of 1,000,000 rare disease in which his heart developed an entirely made up system. Heterotaxy syndrome is a rare birth defect that involves the heart and other organs. The beginning of the word (hetero-) means “different” and the end (–taxy) means “arrangement.” There are different forms of heterotaxy syndrome. All usually involve heart defects of varying types and severity. His heart does not naturally pump oxygenated blood to his body. Along with this he was born with 3 major holes in his heart and veins pointing in the wrong direction. Two of these issues are fixable through major open heart surgery. He has lung disease which called for an operation to his stomach to implant a Gtube, where food goes straight into his stomach. He can not eat by mouth. He has no spleen. And the rest of his organs work hard to sustain life. After a long 9 month period. He is now stable enough to undergo such a surgery. My brother Craig has been doing everything in his power to keep their home standing as the sole provider for the past 4 months. However, with such extensive care needed in hospital bills and everyday bills at his doorstep, he has begun to struggle in keeping his head above it all. In Sept. my sister in law Arlynne had to take unpaid leave to care for Baby Craig full time. Unfortunately, he will continue to require care 24/7 and she had to resign. This changed life considerably for their little family. Without her salary Craig's income does not begin to cover the debt they have acquired in loans, current ongoing care Baby Craig's medical condition and keep a roof over their heads, much less food. Myself and my fiancé were set to get married 6/25/17 in Florida. With most all of the arrangements completed, just shy three months of our big day, we called off our wedding until a later date. Neither of our siblings (nor baby Craig) would be able to be in attendance. The money we were spending on this event didn't make sense, when our siblings were in need. To say the least WE MADE THE BEST CHOICE. That day would have not been close to the joyous one we anticipated given the current circumstances. It's been almost a year and only the closest relatives and friends even knew of this beautiful little soul (Baby Craig / Rocky ). As many can understand ... this has been such a trying time on the parents and us as a family. Unknowing of Gods Will we just kept him to ourselves. But after much prayer and exhausting all other options, exploring several different avenues... it hit me! How dare we keep this precious baby to ourselves?! When there are so many loving people in the world ready to embrace him and love on him too!! It has gotten too hard as a constant growing family for us to continue trying to stay afloat for two households without seeking help. The loss of income completely from one parent had taken its tole. Thank God her job is allowing her to keep her insurance until mid December. But with his surgery being 12/1/17 this is a very scary time for insurance to be coming to an end. The recovery will be a long trying one .. both physically and financially, not to mention emotionally for Baby Craig's parents. On behalf of them, I reach out to you... all of you... for your prayers, for your love, for your time to even care enough to read his story. We have no doubt this too shall pass and we WILL prevail!!! With your help, of even the smallest donation, you are keeping food on a small families table, lights on where darkness has tried to creep in, a roof over their heads to continue to care for this little life. You are keeping hope alive. With each donation and share you are restoring their faith in humanity ... doors have been closed in their faces... yet they strive and knock on the next. Open the door of your heart. Let this baby in. Look at him... allow space for just one more into your heart. Love wins! Every time!!! And for you even reading his story we thank you! I thank you! Give, share, pray. #CraigsHeart ❤️ is beating strong. He is unstoppable!!! A fighter he is indeed... that's my baby Rocky !!! Thank you!! THANK YOU!!! - Athena
