Craft for Community
Jared and Jennifer were teachers in Denver Public Schools with a love for travel and culture. They fell in love with Nicaragua 8 years ago on a trip through Central America and have now opened a project-based learning space, retreat center and language school in the small fishing village of El Transito, Nicaragua. With Jennifer's passion for the arts and Jared's understanding of language learning, they have emparked on this jouney of sustainable tourism to give visitors a way to travel while engaging with the community through education, ecology and the arts.
Craft for Community's lodge is currently being completed. This 3,200 sq/ft space can sleep up to 24 people and provides them with a comfortable, safe place to relax after participating in projects in the community.
A key component of CFC's programming will depend on the outdoor classroom space which is what needs to be built next. This structure will be an ocean view multi-purpose area where students can learn Spanish, reflect about their time in the community and engage in meaninful project-based learning in order to engage the community.
This space will be an open air, ocean view learning area that will be a dynamic space for collaboration and community engagement. We hope to break ground on this project in October of 2017.
The design will be something like the above structure only larger in scale.
The other structure that needs to be built is housing for our amazing employees. They devote their time to CFC's mission every day and we would like to provide them a home on our property so they don't have to commute from town. They are so important to us and we consider them family. Their home will be a simple cottage at the top of our hill. We hope to complete this project by November of 2017.
We are so excited about this new adventure. Craft for Community can provide sustainable tourism to El Transito as well as the travelers that visit us through meaningful activities and collaborations with our community. We hope that you will contribute what you can and then come visit our home in Nicaragua to see it for yourselves.
