Hi! My name is Bethany and I am currently in my second year of graduate school at Northern Illinois University. I am studying to earn my MFA in Acting. As part of my training curriculum, I am given the opportunity to take a trip to Russia, and study with the world-renowned Moscow Art Theatre School. While there, I will train in acting, voice, movement, ballet, Russian theatre history and the Russian language. I also get to see numerous plays, take a trip to St. Petersburg and visit the grave sites of both Konstantin Stanislavksy and Anton Chekhov; two men who actors today can thank for their dedication to the craft long ago.
Ever since my introduction to Stanislavsky and Chekhov in my undergraduate program, it has been my dream to go to Russia and surround myself with the culture, history and eduction that created these two Titans of the theatre. Northen Illinois University is one of only two schools in the nation that offer this experience and opportunity for their graduate students. When the training concludes, I recieve a certificate of completion from the Moscow Art Theatre School, which is something very few people can say they have achieved.
I'm very much looking forward to this wonderful trip but worry about the financial burden it will put on me and my husband. There are virtually no funding opportunities for this trip besides student loans. With us being almost maxed out with what we are allowed to withdraw, it is my fear that I will not be able to take the trip due to finances. My husband is ready to dig deeper and work another job (on top of his current full-time position), but I thought it would be a better idea to turn to our friends, community of artists and complete strangers :) to see what they were willing to give in order for me to fulfill a dream that I have been dreaming for nearly seven years. It is highly unlikely that this opportunity will ever come again. ANY donation will be deeply appreciated and never forgotten.
