Dear family and friends of the Hoffbauer family,
As many of you know, Derek (and his family) have been dealing with the very real, very painful reality of chronic back pain over the last couple years. After seeking relief and treatment from chiropractors and physical therapists, which only seemed to cover the pain temporarily, Derek was finally diagnosed with degenerative disc disease. His doctors all recommended he receive disc replacement surgery rather than a disc fusion. Unfortunately, his insurance company denied the replacement. Derek and Brook have fought hard over the last year and appealed every denial that they could until they reached the end of the road early this past spring. Insurance was NOT going to cover or assist in covering a replacement, which Derek was now in DESPERATE need of. Derek and Brook knew they had no other option than to find a good doctor at a good rate that could perform a disc replacement. They found the doctor in Arizona. Derek would need to leave his job and they would need to pack and sell their house in order to pay cash for his surgery, which was scheduled for August.
Though there have been some rough patches and many struggles, everything has fallen into place. The house has sold, three of the kids are safely being taken care of by family in Minnesota and Derek has pulled through his August 6th surgery with flying colors. Now the road to recovery will begin...
I know many of us have prayed for, helped and supported this family through this very rough season in their lives. And, I know, they are so very thankful!
