Please help our daughter go to college. She wants to be a doctor to help other children after watching the countless doctors help her brother throughout his life. During my pregnancy with my son I was abused by their biological father. As a result her brother, Dusty, has special needs, autism, intractable seizure disorder, challenged immune system just to name a few.

She has witnessed domestic violence and what it can do and now wants to make a difference in the lives of children and Special Olympics. She is a speech coach to her special needs brother and a Special Olympics Global Messenger.  She is an avid volunteer in her community, and just an overall selfless person.

She established the first Special Olympics Project Unify Buddy Club at a Deparment of Defense school, a youth coach for our local chapter of Special Olympics, Unified Partner in Volleyball and Tennis. She chaperoned her brother and his date to the homecoming dance even after getting out of the hospital the morning of the dance after having a mini-stroke the day before.

She has given so much of herself to her brother and now it is her turn. She wants to be a doctor so she can help others like they helped her brother when he was younger.

The financial aid office at Meredith college has been working with us and has bought us some extra time to try to raise the funds needed.
My husband is a Marine Corps veteran and had intended on tranferring his Post 911/GI Bill to her to cover her college tuition, room and board. But they did not allow him to transfer.

She was given merit scholarships (to cover the tuition) and we just need to pay the room and board, books and other fees.
The financial aide office has worked with us in order for Kayla to continue with this opportunity and we are asking for help to allow her to continue her first year without any issues arising from finances.

This is a local car show where Special Olympics Athletes were invited to come and had their own award for judging the most liked from Special Olympians. Kayla helped organize and run activities.

This is the April 2014 Issue of Special Olympics International Newsletter where Kayla was named Volunteer of the month.
