Cancer treatment for KimKim

Donation protected
Fall 2013 was when I found out that my amazing friend and coworker, Deputy Sheriff Kimberly Casey, was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. Even though hearing the dreadful “C” word at such a young age of 38, Kim remained strong and eager to beat it. She powered through a surgery, which removed half of her colon and one ovary, as well as 6 months of chemotherapy. Chemotherapy was the worst part. Neuropathy, nausea, and body weakness were just some of the side effects Kim dealt with. Although Kim was going through such a tough time, she still got up and went to work. She was still very dedicated to her job and her partners. I do believe that work helped her mind and soul heal in this long journey.

After the six month chemo treatment Kim was better than ever. She packed suitcase and headed to Aruba with some friends. Since Aruba, Kim had a couple of doctor’s appointments and all the tests turned out cancer free. Everything was looking great for Kim, until about a month ago. Kim woke up one day and started to have some pain in her lower abdomen. She kept an eye on it, but still went about her day. It wasn’t until later in the day when the pain got extremely worse. Kim decided to go to the E.R. While at the hospital Kim had several tests done. The tests results came back in the worst of ways. Kim was told the cancer had come back and spread throughout her body, including bladder and ovary. The doctor sat Kim down and told her the cancer is very aggressive and she would only have a couple of years left.

Kim refused to listen to the doctors and is doing everything in her power to fight. She will need another surgery to remove the tumor on her bladder and other ovary, as well as more aggressive chemotherapy treatments. As we all know medical care is extremely expensive, especially when treating cancer. Even though Kim is insured she will have several medical expenses. Hearing and seeing my friend go through this is very heart breaking. I would do anything to help her in this time of need. Kim chose a selfless career serving the community; please find it in your heart to help my friend, Kim.
