We are excited to welcome you to our Fundraising platform for the CPDI Africa Global Studio for African Centered Architecture! This global design studio is for all the inquisitive students and professionals who wish to learn how to design beautiful architecture that is inspired by the diverse peoples and cultures of Africa!

We are so passionate about this cause because it celebrates and preserves the creative spirit inspired by the architecture of the African continent. To name just a few, we explore design languages of the Aswan of Egypt, the Luo of Kenya, the Dogon of Mali, the Igbo of Nigeria, the Xhosa of South Africa, the Tata Somba of Benin, and everyone in between including yes, the the African Diaspora of the Caribbean and the Americas!
Developed as a research-based initiative for preserving traditions and technology, through contemporary African architecture that is culturally and environmentally sustainable, CPDI Africa is achieving its innovative vision through African Architecture Competitions, Lectures and Exhibitions, Research and Workshops throughout Africa, America and Europe!

WHY WE ARE!
The demand for teaching African Centered Design in academic institutions and community development organizations has increased astronomically! Rapid urbanization in Africa and cities throughout the African diaspora, demands for architects, planners and urbanists to be expertly trained in both developing solutions for their built environments, but also to safe guard culture and legacy through historic preservation. With worldwide emphasis on providing Green, Eco and Climate Friendly architecture, African designers are again poised to contribute their voices to the discourse on contemporary world architecture. The CPDI Africa Global Studio for African Centered Architecture is prepared to train future designers in translating these African sustainable design philosophies into new design languages as they step into leadership positions in the design professions!
OUR OBJECTIVE
To Provide Architects and Designers an African Centered Academic Platform for Learning Technical Solutions For Problem Solving In their Communities, While Preserving Culture and Heritage through Design. The MISSION is to fast track through Education, the evolution and transformation of the Pan African Built Environment.

Our Fundraising for the Global Studio for African Centered Architecture is twofold:
Phase One.
$20,000.00
- Development of our interactive Website for the virtual Global Courses.
- Securing the ideal Learning Management System for our teaching pedagogy.
- The Awareness campaign for reaching our International target market.
- Target Fundraising Date: December 31st, 2020!
Phase Two:
$80,000.00
- Design and construction drawings for our built Learning Center studio in Nigeria.
- Building materials and labor for our Learning Center.
- Fitting out and furnishing of our Learning Center.
- Opening of our Global Center for African Centered Architecture!
- Target Fundraising Date: May 31st, 2021!

The Community Planning & Design Initiative Africa, is a research-based, culture-inspired initiative created to develop new architectural languages for Africa and the Diaspora that are culturally and environmentally sustainable. Believing that the redevelopment of Africa’s built environment should be as it has always been, built as a collaborative effort between the community members and designated master builders, CPDI Africa engages participation from the design community in Africa and the Diaspora at large, for the accomplishment of its vision.

Our Genius Mentors, the legendary Baba Demas Nwoko, Architect, Master Builder, Artist, Teacher. Nigeria, and renowned Afrocentric architecture theorist Professor David Hughes, FAIA, Nomac, Architect, USA, have guided this initiative right from its birth! The CPDI Africa family and I will for ever be grateful for these great shoulders upon which we rise!

ABOUT THE FOUNDER!
Nmadili N. Okwumabua is an urbanist and professor of African architecture, art and urban design. Her passion for design is rooted in a vision where communities in Africa and the Diaspora are developed with new architectural languages that celebrate the aesthetics and culture of the people today. In 1999, she founded Southern Sahara USA, a design consultancy service specializing in the research and development of this new architecture, which she promotes through exhibitions and lectures. In 2013, the fruits of these efforts gave birth to the Community Planning & Design Initiative, Africa.
Nmadili Okwumabua lives in Atlanta Georgia and Abuja Nigeria, where she offers international consultancy services in urban design and real estate asset management, passionately sharing her vision with the future shapers of Africa’s built environment.
