STM & EF Tours Costa Rica Trip

As an active community member, I’m sure you are interested in ways to improve the lives and education of our young people. I feel exactly the same way. It is for this reason that I have decided to lead a group of students on an educational tour to Costa Rica in June 2015. As a science teacher in the greater southeast area of Washington, D.C., I believe that the experiences these students will have while traveling will serve as a life-long lesson and will undoubtedly advance their perspective not only on aspects of science, but on themselves and their place in the world.

Educational travel is a key component of our newly globally focused curriculum. During my first year as an academic instructor, I was able to develop a distant learning classroom while I traveled to Durban, South Africa and interacted with the students through webinars and Skype sessions. The opportunity to witness new cultures first hand and experience history, typically only learned in a textbook, is one that only enhances a student’s enthusiasm for learning. Students will visit various attractions, from the Manuel Antonio National Park, kayaking in Arenal Region of San Jose, to the Carara Biological reserve to enhance their knowledge in the field of science. It is my hope that all nine of the students willing to participate in this unique opportunity will have the chance.

As a group, we have chosen to partner with EF Educational Tours for our tour abroad and students from various institutions will participate in this adventure, such as St. Thomas More Catholic Academy in the southeast area of D.C.. EF has nearly 50 years of experience in student travel and offers our students the guaranteed lowest price. In an effort to provide as much financial assistance for the students as possible, this letter goes out to ask for your support. Our collective goal is to raise $21,195 for the students. With the GoFundMe Site, I'm looking to raise a total of $10,000.
