COVID19- The Kids of Mais Caminhos Need Your Help!

CO-VID19: We Need You Now More Than Ever. Help the people on the front line to help the favelas!

Meet Maria. She's from Argentina, and she's on the front line to help Rio de Janeiro’s Pavão-Pavãozinho and Cantagalo communities, where the majority of families live in multi-generational homes with limited educational resources and poor sanitation practices. She is the head of Mais Caminhos, a social project designed to help children and adolescents from these communities achieve their dreams, despite the socio-economical disadvantages they've been faced with their whole lives.

And right now, without being able to work, their families are struggling more than ever.

Maria has chosen to ride out the virus in Brazil, a place she's called home for more than 8 years, in order to continue focusing her energies on helping the cause we've both come to love more than I ever thought imaginable: These Kids.

I haven't been a part of Mais Caminhos as long as Maria has, but it didn't take long to understand why she pours so much of herself into the project. We have a group of just over 50 AMAZING kids, to whom we work to provide opportunities for extracurricular activities, tutoring, English classes, and more educational resources. Often without the support or guidance of what we know as traditional parents or responsible adults, these kids seek our help because they understand the importance of bettering their futures. They are intelligent kids born into difficult situations and they need OUR help to succeed.

And right now, because of the Coronavirus, they're having trouble doing the homework we assign them because they're HUNGRY, and their families aren't able to earn the money they need to pay for groceries right now.

Maria is on the front line, ready to help them. As much as I'd like to be by her side in this I came back to my family, but I have no intention to stop working to help these kids. So, I'm writing this to ask a favor:

Those of you who are continuing to receive a salary, or who are about to get a nice stimulus check from your government, please consider sharing what you can with these kids. The money you donate is going straight to Maria on the front line of the slums, where she's putting together food and sanitation baskets and distributing them to the families of our students along with the educational materials I'm sending to keep them sharp.

"Do your part," they say. To me, this means do your part to protect yourself and your loved ones, but let's also do our parts to come together help one another!

To give you an idea of how much help you can provide:

$15 US dollars (which nowadays equals R$75 reias.. the exchange rate is in our favor!!) buys a family of 4 both a sanitation basket and a week's worth of essential food items.

$50 should take care of a family for a month.

Fingers crossed, a month is all we'll need to worry about!!

Take care of yourselves, and help us take care of others!
