Billie Zufelt funeral expense & help her kids

My name is Jessica Marquez I live in Moriarty, NM.  I come to you the community, fellow friends & family members of Billie Zufelt.  With a heavy heart I am lost for words.  3 years ago I took on a profession which I never Knew would become my everyday living & lifestyle.  I became a caregiver @ the residence of Billie Zufelt for her son Michael whom is 48 yrs old.  He suffers from anoxic brain injury & schizophrenia.  Michael requires medial assistance 24/7 in his home.   He lives with his bother Athur Zufelt & his mother whom is a widow and is only soul provider, their 5 dogs that Billie could not live a day without.  She cared for all those dogs as if they were her own kids.

Unfortunately sad to say COVID-19 hit home pretty hard and unexpectedly.  On Dec 2nd both Billie & Michael were taken to be tested for COVID-19  both were positive, Billie positive with pneumonia. The very next day Dec 3, 2020 it became more difficult for Billie to breathe as the day went by.   Paramedics were finally called to the residence where Billie was picked up and taken to Presbyterian Rust in Rio Rancho.  She hated being there, she was so worried about her boys & the dogs, especially Michael.  I don’t know of a day she has ever not been by his side since his brain injury.

Billie tried so hard to be better and get her strength back .  On Dec 7 she was released home with oxygen.  Seeing her walk through the front door that night was a sad sight to see.  Two tiny steps at a time, just to try to catch her breathe she was struggling.  Being a mother, caring for her boys & her 5 dogs were her priority. It was hard for her to get her own rest.  On Dec 7 back to the hospital her lungs were being consumed by the virus, her lungs functioning only 70%. Slowly day by day there was no improvement.

On Jan 1, 2020 her youngest son Arthur received the dreadful, devastating call he didn't want to receive.  So sad but true Billie had passed away.  In the blink of and eye, his lifestyle changes.  Michael will remain in the custody of Arthur.  Due to COVID and his own medical issues Arthur is currently unemployed.  This is going to be a huge challenge, not to mention now the cost of his mothers funeral.  I had taken Billie myself last year to funeral home to make her own arrangements and pay for them to not leave the burden on Arthur when the time came.  Upon speaking with the funeral home payment must be paid in full prior to services.  They do not take and insurance policy that is less that 2 years old as a method of payment. So for the past year she was or thought she was paying for the cost of her funeral on a monthly basis.  This breaks my heart when these individuals have become more like a family to me than a job.

Arthur wishes to remain in the home their Mother was renting, especially to continue to care for his bother & his safety changing his environment with his condition will make things more difficult & unsafe for him.   I informed her landlord of her passing and inquired about her standings, as far as rent.  He informed me that Billie was 2 months behind in rent and now January is due as well.  Another thing Billie purchased a vehicle in 20l8 that was desperately needed to transport Michael to his doctors appts on a regular basis. I as well informed the finance company of her passing.  No hope there either, they informed me that Arthur would be given the opportunity to refinance it himself or purchase it buy paying it off in full.  Otherwise the car is going to be reposed in 30 days of her passing.  Now he will need to find a way to purchase some type of dependable used vehicle to take Mike to his appts which are in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho.  Billie was also behind on her electricity quiet a bit due to the fact there is 2 oxygen machines that run in the house all the time that are needed.   To avoid disconnection they need our help.

Myself along with 2 other caregivers Seneca & Nancy will continue to provide Billie Zufelt's Son Michael the care he needs in his home.  She always made us promise her that we would never let anything happen to Michael & that we would take care of her boys as well as her dogs.  She always said she wanted to out live all of them so they would never have to live without her.  So trying to keep it together like a family, as she referred to us as.   A FAMILY WE SHALL STAND WITHOUT ONE & BROKEN HEARTED.

I am asking to please help these 2 brothers lay their mom to rest at peace.   Help them stay in current home for the safety of Michael as well so we can continue to provide him with care he needs 24/7 and the well being of her 5 dogs.  I know times are the toughest now more so than ever, but any donation would help so much and be greatly appreciated more that you know.  If you are unable to give a monetary value all I ask for is that you please pray for them and us as caregivers of Michael and please share this  page...             Thank you all and God Bless
