Covid-19 Support for the Victor Castro Family

Donation protected
Victor Castro lost his battle with Coronavirus today.

Over the last 25 years, Victor's smile and spirit have impacted the lives of thousands of people who have had the pleasure of crossing paths with him. As the founder and owner of Osprey Tours, Victor was a true steward of this beautiful area that he knew and loved and took pride in introducing visitors to it. If you fished with Victor once, you certainly became a repeat client and a friend. A true Don of Xcalak, he was loved and respected by all.

Covid 19 is worldwide but is hitting the Castro family and Xcalak especially hard. Victor’s mother and sister have recently succumbed to Covid 19 and his brother and father are hospitalized battling the virus. Let me be blunt – THERE IS NO MONEY COMING INTO TO XCALAK. The village and everyone associated with it relies on visitors that come to fly fish, dive, snorkel etc. That isn't happening now, it hasn't happened in 6 months and isn't likely to happen in the foreseeable future. There are no paychecks.

Family finances were already at the breaking point as Victor helped to support his family members in need despite his own financial situation. Now the family is in an even worse situation after Victor was in the ICU in Chetumal for the last days of his illness and the medical bills began piling up even further.

This GoFundMe has been created to ask the people that have been impacted by Victor to help his family. The Castro family needs our help and we're asking you to give what you can.

Rob Mukai (Xcalak), Jason Mize (Mahahual) and Alex Beck have created this page to for the Castro family. If anyone has questions or concerns about the fund raiser or could help the Castros or Xcalak in general, feel free to reach out to any one of us.

EDIT: Gofundme has requested that I clarify a couple of items.
1. This fundraiser is for the benefit of the surviving direct family members of Victor Manuel Castro Gutierrez who passed away on Saturday August 8, 2020. This includes his sons and daughters, grandkids and wife Flora. Victor was my best friend here. Not only did we work together, he was  a good neighbor and friend and we would go out fishing together just for fun as often as we could. I will do everything I can to help this family.
2. The funds are to help cover the medical expenses incurred in Victor's healthcare, as well as the expenses for the healthcare of his father, sister and mother, all of whom passed away due to COVID-19. Funeral expenses, as well as any other expenses that may arise.  And finally to help them through until the business is capable of sustaining them economically.
3. Since the family doesn't have easy access to a bank, I (Rob Mukai) have been authorized by the family  and will ensure that all donations (minus fees) is transferred to the family outside of the GoFundMe system.
