Mill Water School pupils have a range of complex physical and learning difficulties and they and their families are finding life particularly hard at the moment.
It has been identified that what they really need to relieve the pressure during this isolation is practical things that will help keep their children busy and entertained and reduce the feeling of being swamped with the daily care the children need.
So our goal is to provide activity packs and equipment (approx £50 per pupil) for our 115 pupils, aged 3-19. The packs would be tailored to each child and include crafts, sensory & indoor and outdoor play items.
These children and their families are currently especially suffering without the usual respite care available and the structure and routine the children need. They are families that often struggle to get out of the house with their children at the best of times and who can be overwhelmed by the daily tasks of keeping their children mentally and physically safe, due to their complex physical and learning disabilities.
It has been identified that things that will entertain, educate and provide sensory stimulation for the children would be of huge help and perhaps make the difference between a family coping or not. It will also be a big boost to morale. Depending on the need of each child, this might be craft activities, sensory toys, cookery or gardening items, items that encourage physical and social development, and anything that helps the children develop 'skills for life' so they can live as fulfilled and independent lives as possible when they leave school (which is ultimately Mill Water School's goal).
