COVID-19 Hunger Relief Fund for Kilimanjaro Crew

Since 2007 I have spent several years of my life in Tanzania working with the local guides, cooks and porter crews of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Over the course of more than 120 ascents of the mountain, I have witnessed 1st hand, the amazing contribution these people make to the success of the trip. I have been fortunate to call many of them my good friends. The Kilimanjaro industry supports thousands of local workers, and tens of thousands of family members.
COVID-19 has decimated the Kilimanjaro tourism industry and the income that the local people rely on to house and feed their families.
This fundraiser will benefit the approximately 300 local crew members that we work with on these Alpine Ascents Kilimanjaro trips. Funds will be used to purchase wholesale staple foods such as corn flour, rice, sugar, cooking oil and bar soaps. These will be packaged down and fairly distributed to the crew members. Oversight and logistics will be provided by our Tanzanian partner company, local lead guide staff and the Kilimanjaro Porter Assistance Project (KPAP) in Moshi.
Every $7,500 USD raised will provide a staple food basket worth $25 USD to 300 separate crew members. These staples can help feed a family for 1 month.
I am hoping to make multiple distributions over the next 4-5 months, with the 1st before Christmas. It will be July 2021 at best before work will pick up for the Kilimanjaro crews. My hope is to provide them with some basic food assistance to help bridge the gap, and give them hope that life will return to a better place in the future.
