My name is Shai Wottitz and I’m starting the COVID-19 Group Therapy Project. In the weeks since COVID-19 has began to spread rapidly throughout the U.S., social distancing measures have been prolonged and hospitals overflow– we have a lot to process in the wake of this outbreak. I’ve had the privilege of seeing a therapist in the months prior to the outbreak and have found the tools I’ve learned in therapy helpful in coping with all of the changes as a response to the virus. I realize that a lot of people who could really benefit from the processing/coping mechanisms therapy offers during a time like this, but many don’t have access to it, and I want to change that. The COVID-19 Group Therapy Project will provide virtual support group sessions with a trained therapist for free to people who need it and wouldn’t otherwise have access, while creating community through shared experience.
If you’re looking for a support system to process the realities of COVID-19, please consider signing up. We are looking to launch our service on April 13th, 2020, on a first come first serve basis. Unfortunately, our service will only be available to those living in California, as that is where our therapists are registered to practice.
If you’re able to, please consider donating to the project! Your donations will go directly to subsidizing group therapy sessions, ensuring that our therapists and everybody working on this project are compensated appropriately for their role, and the costs of creating and launching our website for sign up.
For every $2,000 to $2,500 donated, we will be able to fully fund 8 weeks of virtual group therapy sessions for one group of up to 8 people. Right now the goal is set for $20,000, which would be enough to form eight groups, but the more we're able to raise, the more therapists we'll be able to bring in and the more groups we'll be able to fund! A share on social media supports considerably as well. Your share spreads awareness of the project, and you never know which one of your friends, family, or followers could benefit or give to the project.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your interest in this project. We have the opportunity to help people get through this with the support of people going through the same thing. We’re physically apart but we’re in this together.
