COVID-19 Protective Face Guards for Ayrshire

It is in times like these that communities must pull together and join our counter parts on the front line in the fight for our very existence. A bit dramatic I grant you, but true none-the-less. Over the course of the past few months the world has watched in awe as a microscopic legion invade our very homes. We at Tsukure Hub CIC have indeed watched in disbelief at the rapid spread of the contagion.

It is our philosophy to always tackle problems head-on and have become experts in crisis management, during our teams investigations into the severity of the viral infection our researchers began adopting proactive approaches to determining the most effective ways the resources at the centre could be distributed and help tackle the pandemic alongside the local council and emergency services and NHS authorities.

Within the last few weeks several designs for protective equipment have been developed and shared globally on the internet. More recently a 3D printer manufacturing company (Prusa) developed a suitable design for full-face protective shields which was rapidly adopted as a quick response by many 3D printing companies and hobbiest. We also looked at this solution but determined the manufacture process was ineffective and thus continued to look for alternatives whilst also pursuing this line a approach.

A couple of days ago, another company, that had adopted the Prusa design, produced and made available the designs for a laser cut version. This solution is maintainable, scalable and considerably cheaper and more durable than the 3D printed design.

We have pre-ordered materials to produce the first couple of hundred full-face guards for local hospitals and carehomes in Ayrshire and with the kind donations of community members #HelpingFromHome we will continue to produce many more.

The complex is currently able to produce around 8,000 full-face guards per week and we have looked at increasing the number of lasers and temporarily hosting them in our Community Art gallery. We will keep you posted. Thank you for taking time to read this, we hope you keep well and never come face-to-face with one our full-face protection headgear!
