Covid-19 Emergency Fund For Single Mothers

We are Elle Pierre and Ashley Simpo - two moms raising kids in Brooklyn, NY.
We met through social media back in 2016 and formed a friendship over the biggest thing we have in common - motherhood. Since then, we have been in constant conversation about motherhood. As we built our friendship, we each recognized that we’re part of a group that is vastly underrepresented: Black mothers who are consciously parenting. We are Black mothers who are breaking generational cycles and making hard choices every day to raise children who feel supported and loved.
We came to realize that authentic conversation about what to expect while parenting was hard to come by, as many of our peers are struggling themselves to figure it out. Millennial parenting is a new territory that most of us navigate with little to no preparation from our elders. We are learning what motherhood is through trial and error and partnered or not, we often feel alone in this experience. We recognized that our fellow millennial mothers also shared a need to be a part of this growing conversation and so we created Livingwomb. The conversation which started in our living room over a glass of wine expanded into an open conversation that invited mothers, birth workers, partners and aunties to be a part of it.
Now more than ever, we recognize that community support is of the utmost significance as COVID-19 has placed many of our peers in compromising and even dangerous situations.
We are raising this money with the humble goal of giving $250 to 100 women who are desperately seeking to provide for their families right now.
How we will distribute funds:
Once per week, we will post across our social media platforms with a call to action for single mothers to respond so that we can choose 5-10 to send funds to via CashApp.
It's a simple process and we’d like to place money in the hands of mothers as quickly as possible.
