Covid Relief Fund for Jipe Moyo School, Kenya

COVID -19 has impacted everyone. The hardest-hit areas are poverty-stricken communities around the world. Our little school, Jipe Moyo, with about 200 students, is devastated. Without your help, the community is extremely fearful that Jipe Moyo will not be allowed to re-open.

Jipe Moyo is a small poverty line community in Kenya that is 25 km outside of Mombasa. Jipe Moyo was founded in 2011 by a local women's initiative to save the children from neglect and educate them, so they have a brighter future.  They did just that!! 

In the last 9 years, Jipe Moyo is a recognized leader for elementary education in the community. Students have been educated well and have also received medical care, love, food, and attention from our wonderful local teachers.

At Jipe Moyo, we believe in educating the whole child, and all that starts with trust. We believe in student-centered teaching to encourage students to become confident, caring, and great community leaders for a better future. Public schools have up to 100 students in one class but at JM we are able to keep the numbers to a maximum of 25 per class to keep them safe. 

We want to continue this mission. COVID-19 has been disastrous to our community's families. Total loss of income for most families means that even food is a problem.

Similar to many other countries worldwide, Kenya's government has put school restart plans into place. Unfortunately, no financial support is given to non-public community schools even though they are registered with the government. 

Our teachers have not been able to earn their wages since April 2020 and there has been no government support for any private school staff countrywide in Kenya.

2 no touch washing basins =  $ 600

Create an isolation room and storage =  $ 1000

3 Infrared Thermometers =  $220

Liquid antibacterial hand soap for 1 term =  $ 360
 
15 additional desks = $ 450

Sanitizers for desks = $450

Disinfectants = $ 440

Face masks 2 pcs per child (200  children +staff ) = $500

Renovate toilets and add 2 more toilets= $700

PPE for cleaners = $300

Water buckets with taps = $200
