Covid Mali

Mali is an impoverished country in Africa where most people survive on less than $1.25 per day. The country is not adequately equipped to fight the Coronavirus.

We are raising money to buy raw materials to prototype and build medical supplies for the fight against Coronavirus and Covid-19 in Mali.

Technical groups around the world are creating alternatives to commercial medical supplies. Many of these designs are open-sourced, meaning they are readily available on the Internet. Engineering and 3D Printing communities like Prusa Printers, and Open Source COVID 19 Medical Supplies are working with local and national governments to leverage their skills to make much-needed supplies. With COVID Mali, we are beginning to do just that- utilize already-endorsed designs to locally prototype and manufacture personal protective equipment (PPE) and other medical equipment.

However, even as we aim to localize production, we continue to run into the problem of, there is not enough raw material readily available in Mali. We do not have enough Polylactic acid (PLA) plastic filament for our 3D printers, for instance. We are lacking materials from arduino or rasberry pi computing devices to simply plastic or plexiglass which are already disappearing in the local markets as supply chains weaken.

We will spend money on items like: 

3D printer raw material
Ambu bags for pneumonia ventilators
Transparent plastic sheet for face shields
Micro electronics for system controllers
Miscellaneous materials to connect things together (i.e. PVC pipes, polyethylene sheets, roofing sheets)

As the U.S. fights against Coronavirus, the battle in Mali is just beginning.
