COVID-19 Mental Health Crises

As any parent of a child who struggles with a mental health illness would tell you, the devastation of having to wait for services on one long list after the other, and the burden of not knowing what to do or how to help their little ones, is not only hindering to the child’s growth and abilities, but also beyond stressful, depressing and exhausting to the parents. Children in Michigan need mental health services, but they are either not getting them in time, or not getting them at all.

On average, a child with any mental health disorder (but autism) in Michigan waits 3-6 weeks to see a therapist. A child with any Autism Spectrum disorder could wait as long as 3-6 months to see a therapist. This wait is even longer in Northern Michigan regions.  “There are about 670,000 people living in Michigan with unmet health needs--70,000 of those are children under the age of 18.”-2019 Mental Health in America

Now, with the pandemic shattering our own community, and other communities across the country and the world, the need for mental health services has become even more essential to our sanity and overall wellbeing. With that in mind, and the facts already in hand, the 670,000 people disparity mentioned above between available and needed services is expected to be even bigger and the wait list will become even longer. The need to act immediately is vital!

It is worth mentioning that while most published news articles and scientific reports about the gap in mental health services convey that there are shortage in providers nationwide, the shortage is actually in the facilities that provide services, not the personnel themselves (Providers).

RCC was created to provide quality mental health services, and decrease the wait-time children and adults have to endure to see a therapist. RCC is a general mental health practice with a focus on two specialty clinics: The Autism Center, and the Anxiety Clinic. RCC is an organization with a plan to strategically serve all Michigan’s regions within the first three years of operation; and a mission to expand across the country within 5-7 years period.

RCC was founded by MA, a mental health therapist and a licensed clinical social worker with an extensive background in programs management. MA has been providing mental health services to children and adults in Michigan for over six years and has worked as a program coordinator, manager, and director for over 20 years prior to becoming a therapist.

I need your help to start this organization that is currently only on paper. I need your help and I will use the fund to start a community oriented mental health practice with the capacity to serve 750,000 child and adult per year with an intensive focus on children. Your support will not only mean my life and my future to me, it will also mean that smile on a parent's face when they see their child well again and it will mean the word "thank you" from a teenager who a few weeks ago wanted to take his/her own life. It will mean "we care" and it will mean " we are here". It will mean..... We The People of The United States.... are here.
