Hi everyone!

My mom was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. She had a mass and half of her thyroid removed. Then a few months later the surgeon went back and removed the rest because the pathology confirmed cancer.

Thyroid cancer, when caught early, has a high rate of successfully getting rid of it. For some reason, it took almost a year to remove it from the time we were aware of the lump.

Here we are almost a year later after her surgery, and the cancer is in her jugular vein now and has metastasized to her lungs.

Up until this point, her treatments have been in Chico. I was paying for the gas to take her. Now we have to drive to UC Davis. We did try to get some of the scans in Chico, but UC Davis insisted that they run all tests and treatments.

This is far bigger financially than I can handle personally. I have some other family members contributing as much as they can. My daughter encouraged me to start this fund. I have no idea how much this is going to cost. Her medical is covered. This post is just to get her down there.

In the next month, we have 8 appointments between Chico and Sacramento. The Chico appointments are for other health issues she has.

At this point, even though we know it is in her neck and lungs, the doctors want to do a brain and PET scan to see if it has spread more. We were told she is stage 4.

After that, we will find out what their game plan is to try to slow this aggressive form of thyroid cancer down and try to control it. We know it can’t be cured at this point. They are hopeful to slow it down and try to control it, if it hasn’t spread more.

I just don’t know how many trips are needed for her treatments.
