Cover Nursing License Fees

In Colorado alone Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) reports there are about 61,000 registered nurses working in Colorado. Each one of those nurses must spend $140 on September 30th every two years to stay current. That means that half of the nurses must renew this year and the other half of the nurses must renew the following year. CNA license renewals are about $50 and LPNs about $100.

Right now nurses across the state, and country, are working through the Covid-19 pandemic. They are working long hours, with minimal PPE to help save as many lives as they can. These nurses keep waiting for some kind of support from the state or federal government, but it does not look like it is coming. There is no hazard pay, no licensing support, no loan forgiveness, and no protections under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act.

My wife comes home from a night working in the ER and is exhausted. I leave her a robe in our garage along with a bag for her shoes and badge. She has to strip down, put on the robe, and immediately head to the shower for fear of bringing anything home on her clothes. This isn't a new thing for coronavirus. This is just her life. In the time she spends driving home and taking her shower she has to decompress; letting go of the patients she was unable to save, the abused children she helped that day, the old man who's hand she held as his wife of 50 years passed, and now the gravely ill people with covid who she is so afraid will infect her and then subsequently all the people she loves and cares about. She does all this and then once again puts on a smile for her little baby and her husband who she thinks isn't strong enough to handle that burden.

Now it is time to give back. Not just in kind words and gestures, but with real money.

My goal with this go fund me is to help pay those nurses licensing fees. It would be amazing if no nurses had to pay their licensing fees this year, or next year. To fund all of Colorado's RNs that would take about 8.5 Million dollars. To fund the entire US it would take about 400 Million dollars.

All the flyovers, prayers, banners, and public addresses will not actually help these medical providers stay current in their licensing, or feel rewarded for the very important work that they are doing. Nurses are always looked at to martyr themselves. Always expected to give up every ouch of their body and soul. And to do it with a smile.

As this go fund me raises money, RNs, LPNs and CNAs will be able to request their license fees paid, and as long as there is money the fees will be paid. So. please give back to the nurses who give so much to protect you and your family, not just during the pandemic, but always.
