Courtney Jewel & Joe Salinas -Flood

When Courtney Jewel left home in the face of hurricane Florence, her primary goal was to protect her animals. She fled to Ohio with 7 dogs and a rat. Two of the dogs were strays she simply couldn’t leave behind. About the only things she told us she saved were some important papers.
She returned to New Bern, North Carolina, to find their home completely flooded.
“Not going to say it doesn’t suck because it does, 3 cars including a 1973 Charger that my dad and husband put countless hours into and a house full of memories are gone but we made it out safely with our animals which is more than a lot of people can say. Please keep North Carolina in your prayers,” she posted on Facebook.
Courtney’s story was highlighted locally in the Van Wert, Ohio newspaper, and on ABC21 WPTA TV in Fort Wayne, Indiana. It touched a lot of people to think she thought more of her animals than she did of her possessions.
Now is OUR time to help them replace the material things destroyed by the flood.
Look around your house at what you have. I’m not talking about the mementos & collectibles, many of which can’t be replaced. Instead, they’ve lost food, clothing, bedding, toiletries, shoes, books, utensils, electronics, . . . the list goes on and on. They have to replace everything required for daily living.
Until the flooding recedes, they are staying in a hotel and eating at restaurants which can be quite expensive. Both proud Marines, they wouldn’t think to ask for help, so it’s up to us to step up and make things a bit easier for these two.
