This go fund me page was created by friends and family of Kala Kaaihue, Courtney Gomez and their children, Mikayla 3, Roman 2 and Mahina 10 mos. They are being faced with a HUGE challenge!
They were surprised when Courtney found out last October she was pregnant with her 3rd child, and even more surprised when the doctor said "there's 2 heartbeats." Yup, twin girls!! Their initial shock evolved to excitement but, of course, some added stress and pressure because despite all the love and joy parenthood brings, it comes with trials and tribulations at all levels. This young couple is doing an amazing job with their keiki and the love and pride they have for their family is so evident. As they were positively preparing to welcome 2 more babies to their world, they got hit with tough news. One of the twins will face her own big challenge as soon as she is born, one she must win to live. She has TGA (Transposition of the Greater Arteries) which basically means that the pulmonary and aorta are switched. This means that the blood does not get re-oxygenated in the heart. Babies born with this immediately start to turn blue as they now need to pump blood on their own. It requires a 6-8 hour surgery at soon after birth - a surgery that is not performed in Hawaii. It will need to be done at a mainland hospital that specializes in team concept pediatric cardiology surgery.
Courtney and Kala are committed to do all they can to give their baby girl the medical care she'll need to be a survivor. We are all being positive and pray to God for the best medical outcome for both babies and Mom.
This means Courtney will need to deliver by c-sect on the mainland earlier than their natural June due date. Baby will need to remain there for continuity of care and till deemed medically safe to fly home to Hawaii. This means a temporary relocation to the mainland for this family, approx 2-3 months. I'm sure you can imagine the worry and emotional stress they are under. And, financially, it's a hardship that can be crippling - double housing costs, airfare fees, rental car fees and just all the additional costs of setting up safe and comfortable living arrangements away from home for a new mom, newborns and the family.
Please lets help this young couple through this difficult time. They have both been very hardworking, good people throughout their lives and the kind of souls that help out others in a pinch. If this fund gives them even just a little help with the extraordinary expenses they are facing, it'll make a difference.
