On Wednesday May 5th 2021 Cam went to his primary care with diverticulitis symptoms. The doctor ordered blood work and a CT scan same day. An hour after the CT the doctor had us come back to the office and let us know they found a mass on the neck of the pancreas as well as a few other things. Referrals were sent out for biopsies and a treatment plan.
Friday of the same week May 7th cam declined quickly and didn’t feel like he could make it through the weekend so he was admitted to the hospital that night to start IV antibiotics and fluids. During his 3 day hospital stay they also started insulin as his blood sugars and anon gap were abnormally high.
Sunday May 11th Cam was discharged from the hospital on antibiotics and daily insulin.
Wednesday May 12th we had the first appointment with Cams oncologist and it was confirmed through pathology that cam has an adenocarcinoma on his pancreas as well as abnormalities in his peripancreatic lymph node and his liver.
Thursday May 13th cam also met with his primary care again and we began the new treatment plan for his insulin needs which requires tons of note keeping and modifications on cams blood sugar levels and insulin needs. They will be handling the more simple issues and putting the cancer treatments in the hands of the oncologist and surgeon.
At this time, Cam has a liver biopsy May 24th which is crucial with staging his cancer and figuring out which treatment will work best for him.
Either way this goes, cam will at least be looking at chemo and either radiation or drug therapy. If this is Early stage we will also eventually be able to look at resection of the pancreatic tumor.
