Hello! My name is Renee Stroud! I am in college to become a Certified Vet Tech, and work in an Emergency animal clinic! I love animals and want to spend the rest of my life helping and saving them! Third world countries are known to be hard on locals, but not many people think of the animals lives. Costa Rica covers just 0.03% of the world’s landmass, yet it is home to an over 500,000 species of animals.
The Frontier-Costa Wildlife Sanctuary project was established to support a dedicated local non-profit organization working to rescue and rehabilitate wild animals, and secure their future release to the wild into protected areas. As a volunteer I will help support the work of the local staff at the sanctuary taking care of. This rescue is a sanctuary that is known for taking care of a range of indigenous animals including sloths, armadillos, anteaters, wild cats, opossums, various primates, caiman, snake, birds of prey and toucans... Among others! This would also include work with the Jaguar, which are now extremely rare! The sanctuary is also based on the beach where I will also be able to do turtle night watches! This is to make sure that hatch-lings make it to the ocean without getting eaten or misguided!
Other than feedings, cleanings and treatment of animals I will be able to watch animals be released into the wild. I will also gain hands-on experience caring for a range of wildlife, become a surrogate parent to young sloths or primates and experience life in the Costa Rican jungle! This experience is something not everyone gets the chance to do, and I want to have the opportunity to have had these experiences! I want to make a difference in the lives of these animals, and this is the way to do it!
The center has been responsible for the rehabilitation and release of hundreds of endangered animals since its establishment in 2008. Most of the animals that are sheltered in the center have gone through traumatic experiences, often infants that have lost their mothers. These animals deserve to be loved and cared for, and to know that some people would give their lives to save theirs! This is why I have decided to go with this project, and this sanctuary. My volunteer hours would be from 7:30am-4pm from Monday to Friday, with turtle watching nights. So, to all the people who donate and give me the chance to volunteer and make a difference; thank you from me and the animals of Costa Rica!
