Cosmetic Casualties

Thousands of Irish people every year choose to get cosmetic surgery, with procedures carried out in hospitals and clinics across the country.

But what are the risks involved and how often does it go wrong?

Are there types of surgery with a particular risk and are even relatively simple procedures like laser eye correction as straightforward as they are made seem?

We want to look into the cosmetic surgery industry in Ireland to discover which - if any - procedures present concerns.

How many cases are taken when surgery goes wrong? Is it difficult to win such cases, and is compensation adequate for what is involved? Is there evidence of poor practice by specific people and are clinics offering procedures that they are not licenced to carry out?
