Cory'sMediFlight/Home Modification

August 5th was a life changing day for us - Cory was home for the weekend, he worked out of state during the week, so I always looked forward to him being home on Friday nights.  We had a great family dinner the evening of August 4th, something I cherish very much, even more now....but the afternoon of August 5th, I asked Cory & Cody to go to the grocery store for me, they always did, they helped me out since I was busy and they were able to pick out some things they liked - they left, and when they did, I heard the motorcycle start up and thought, why does Cody have to ride that bike....about 45 minutes later, Cody came home in Cory's car and his first words were "Cory's not here?" I said "no" and started putting the groceries away.  Cody was concerned, he let Cory ride the motorcycle home and Cory should have been home already since he left before Cody.  I got all the groceries away and Cody was getting even more worried - I went outside, it was a beautiful day, I stood in the warm sun and heard a helicopter off in the distance (I just didn't know at that exact time, that was the Nightingale taking Cory to the hospital), I went back inside, asked Cody if he was worried, he said "yeah", I said "now you know how I feel" (I have always hated the crotch rocket bikes) - I suggested he go look for Cory, so Cody left and said, "Yeah, I know what way he would have went".  About 3-5 minutes later, Cody called to tell me that Cory had crashed (about a mile from home), the bike was in the ditch along with his shirt and his shoe (no words can do justice to how I felt).....we contacted the Isle of Wight Sherrifs office and they confirmed he was being flown to Sentara Norfolk General, we immediately were en route and I didn't know what to do, so I called a couple of friends and family and then reached out to Facebook for prayers, I had no idea what to expect, but my heart was breaking and I wanted everyone to join me in asking God to save my son. Cory suffered a spinal cord injury, burst fracture, to his T6, a partial transection and damage/bruising to the T5/T4 area as well, broken clavicle, broken sternum, broken ribs, and broken ankle. The surgeons were able to fix his bones, but he doesn't have any feeling from his chest down.  His lungs suffered bruising/contusions and were his biggest hurdle in his survival. The respiratory therapists, doctors, and nurses were AMAZING and truly saved Cory's life. He has spent 3 weeks in critical care and a week in the PVSU, and now he is headed off to The Shepherd Center for rehabilitation tomorrow.  His flight is $5000.00 to Atlanta and the Shepherd Center approved him for a scholarship due to Cory not having insurance to cover this. (his job was new June 12th and he was just 30 days away from having insurance when this happened). While in rehabilitation we will be needing to make some modifications to our home in order to accomodate Cory and a wheelchair. We need a full bath downstairs and a wheelchair ramp, and we aren't sure what else we will need, and during this past month and probably the next, we really don't have any substantial income at this time, but we have been blessed to have been able to be with Cory every single day since the accident, to support him and to pray for him.  He has had an amazing attitude and he is very grateful and he is thankful to be here with us.  This is hard for us to ask for financial help, it's something that is a true struggle, but if you are able to help, it would be a true blessing and we thank you sincerely. Prayers are always appreciated and we can't thank you enough for praying for our Cory Jay, it means more than anything.
