Corrine Murphy is many things.
She is our great friend and colleague at Londonderry (NH) High School – the hub of our group texts, the one who remembers everyone’s birthdays, and the one who cuts through the fog to the heart of the matter.
She is a master English teacher, coach, and advisor who has touched the future through her work in and out of the classroom. Under her guidance, hundreds of students have become college-ready, career-ready, and world-ready. They are better learners -- and better people for their time with her.
But most importantly, she is the single mother of a very special girl.
Maya Murphy was born prematurely seven years ago with dup15q syndrome, a rare genetic condition associated with autism, motor skill issues, and developmental delays. Her mother was told she would likely never talk or walk to any significant degree.
Today, Maya talks and sings, walks and dances. With Corrine’s tireless efforts and advocacy, she’s now thriving in school. She’s funny and she’s fierce. In short, she’s very much like her mother.
And they both need your help right now.
For the past two years, Corrine has been battling with synovial sarcoma, a rare form of cancer that has impacted her mobility and left her in constant pain. During this time, she’s continued to teach and to provide for Maya’s own education and welfare. She has kept this struggle largely private while continuing to put others ahead of herself.
Your donations will do several things to make this happen. They’ll provide assistance with household and living expenses for Corrine, Maya, and their family members who are providing care and support during this difficult time.
From the beginning of this journey, Corrine’s greatest concern (as well as her greatest source of strength) has been Maya. She has been putting together a legal and financial framework to secure the best life possible for this very special girl. Your donations will also be used to support these steps being taken to provide for Maya’s care and well-being, for now and for the future.
