Coronavirus Relief for Farmworkers

Tax deductible
Farmworker communities are working hard to keep the United States fed during this pandemic. Now designated as “essential workers,” they continue to work while “shelter in place” orders have been enacted for the majority of us around the country.

During this time, farmworkers need our support more than ever! The Farmworker Association of Florida is working to be a safety net by helping to provide food to farmworker families, assisting them with paying their utility bills and rent, and providing potentially life-saving information on how to stay safe and healthy during this pandemic. We cannot do this without your “essential” support for our coronavirus relief efforts.

Donations help us to help hard-working and struggling farmworkers through this immediate crisis, even as FWAF is advocating on the state and national level for policies that include farmworkers in relief packages and inclusion for undocumented workers in policy decisions.

Despite their sacrifices, farmworker communities are some of the most vulnerable communities to the coronavirus. Many farmworkers live in small, close-knit households, sometimes with multiple families sharing the same living space. In addition, many are likely to have pre-existing health conditions, while having little or no access to health care services. There are reports of workplaces that fail to provide their farmworkers with proper training or equipment to work safely. These essential workers continue to endanger themselves, because a food shortage would worsen the crisis for us all.

The coronavirus has swept across the world, and in a very short time it has altered the way we live our lives. While we scramble to readjust to social distancing, working from home, unemployment, and other factors, worrying about a lack of food seems like a stress we cannot add to our plate. We, also, realize our common humanity and responsibility to those who make our continued survival possible.

You can help make a difference in the lives of farmworkers and their families in Florida by donating to our coronavirus relief effort.

We owe farmworkers the same support they are giving us! Please donate now.  And, from all of us at the Farmworker Association of Florida, thank you!

Be well, stay safe and take care.
