Corona Virus Free Community in Likhubula, Malawi

We are all aware of the global pandemic happening due to the COVID 19 virus. This virus is NOT a grand equalizer, but instead hits the vulnerable-- the poor, people of color, the disabled, the elderly and the imprisoned much worse than the privileged. This is the reality for the people in the Likhubula community, in Mulanje, Malawi. The majority of the folks in this village depend on tourism for their income, wether they are hiking guides, like  my friend Harry Naminga, or they have shops that sell souvenirs to tourists. Others have lost their jobs because of the shelter in place order and closing of schools and businesses. This village already suffers with poverty in "normal times", so you can imagine that now it has become extremely difficult and mostly impossible for them to afford preventative supplies and medical treatment. People here are dying from COVID 19.

Harry is motivated to help his community protect themselves against COVID 19. He has teamed up with a school teacher from the community, Chipiliro Nedi, and together they made a proposal and asked me to help in the fundraising. Our goal is to purchase and distribute masks, sanitizer, soap, and buckets for the Likhubula Community. They will give priority to the most vulnerable-- elders, orphans and the disabled, and then ideally will like to help everyone if the funds reach. 

I know that everyone is going through hard times right now. We have lost jobs, lost loved ones, lost our sense of freedom, but we may still have a little extra change that can go a long way.
