PuPPy, Seattle's Python user group, is mourning death of one of our members and will attend our first funeral as a community this Sunday.
Corinne Hutchinson (1980-2018) died this past week due to complications treating her leukemia. Two daughters of kindergarten and second grade age survive her. [This campaign is raising funds to deposit to a trust account for her daughters' future education.] Corinne and her husband Paul Obrecht previously setup 529 accounts for Annike and Imogen. Paul will deposit the funds from your donations into the 529 accounts.
Sometimes when I meet someone, I know we'll never be friends. When I first met Corinne, I thought I'd like her to be one of my best friends. For me as a founder of PuPPy, Corinne achieved in her career what I hope many of our PuPPy members can follow as an example.
After an impressive transcript in her prior profession that includes a Ph.D. in linguistics from Georgetown University, Corinne made a big career change and was succeeding as a software professional working primarily in Python. OfferUp hired her as a new grad from Code Fellows. At OfferUp Corinne progressed in her job, adding skills and increasing her command of her craft.
In her very first year as a software professional, Corinne presented a talk on GeoDjango for PuPPy. On a ballot for community voting that included speakers like Brandon Rhodes, Larry Hastings, and Jessica McKellar, Corinne won our PuPPy members' choice for favorite talk of our first year.
Brandon, Larry, and Jessica are widely acknowledged as three of the best speakers in the Python world.
Corinne beat leukemia once. We all were expecting that her tenacity would win out again. Sometimes despite our best efforts we cannot effect the outcome. Corinne gives an example to do our best and not to waste the time on this earth.
I hope you'll consider helping out Corinne's family at a difficult time. Your support will demonstrate for her family, we value what Corinne taught us, she gave us as a community the best example of how to live life.
