FIRE! Please help my sister Cori.

Yesterday, my younger sister Cori had a fire in her townhouse in Ewa Beach, Hawaii. Things are bad. She's been having a rough time, even before the fire, and I feel horrible for her. So, here's my first attempt at a gofundme page. I don't know if Cori wants me telling this much of her story, but I feel so bad for her and hope that telling her story will get her as much help as possible.

They think there was a bad wire in the dryer. The fire started in the laundry area and started to spread. Luckily, the neighbors saw smoke, called the fire department, and were able to save her pets. Being that it was a townhouse connected to other units, the fire fighters had to be aggressive. Fortunately, they were able to keep the damage contained to my sister's unit. Unfortunately, that meant her whole unit was devastated by the fire, smoke and water.

My sister has been going through medical issues for years. Because of one issue, she was afraid she wouldn't be able to have kids. Then we got the awesome news that she was having a little girl. That's the little rascal in the main photo of this gofundme. I know I might be biased, cuz I'm her uncle, but she's so freakin' cute and fun. Maybe I'll post some goofy photos of us later.

Then more bad news came. She started having different health issues. At times, the doctors didn't want her to work, but Hawaii isn't exactly the cheapest place to live. She had to help support her family and continued to work. She worked so hard and pushed through for her family. As much as I admired her for that, the health issues worried me.

Earlier this year, we got some exciting news. She was pregnant again! We now know Kenzie is going to have a little sister in January. This time Cori had to stop working, because of the health issues. Things have been rough, but they've been making it work.

Then came the fire. There's never a good time for a fire, but the timing of this one just seems so cruel. Kenzie's 5th birthday is coming in about a week and her presents were hidden in the townhouse. Cori is 29 weeks pregnant and had been buying things for the new baby slowly. She had just bought some new maternity clothing. All of that is gone. Almost everything else is either burned or ruined. I can't even imagine.

People ask me if I'm afraid of dying in a plane crash because of my job. I always tell them no, because if it's my time, it's my time, and it'll probably be quick. Then I usually say that I am afraid of cancer and fire. Both are cruel and painful in so many ways. I live in the SF area now and watched the news about the recent horrific fires day after day. I probably live about an hour drive from the closest fires to me, but here I was sweeping ash from my balcony. My building started a drive for the victims, so we went to Dollar Tree and bought about $100 worth of essentials that were on the list. All we could think of were all these poor people and how they lost just about everything. It never crossed my mind how fire would hit even closer to home than those fires.

I hope this wasn't too much of a read. I tried to make it as short as possible while still telling everyone what this gofundme is all about and my motivation for doing it. I have no experience with gofundme, so I just typed in $2000 when asked for a goal. I really can't even comprehend the loss my sister and her family just suffered and how much money it will take to survive and try to get back to the way things were. Thank you to all of you who took the time to read this and are sending them your sympathy and positive thoughts. I'd really appreciate anything you can give. Even the smallest donation can be really helpful, like getting Kenzie new school supplies. Wishing you all the best and sincerely THANK YOU again.
