Dear Family and Friends
As many of you know Corey completed treatments for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in June 2019. Regular bloodwork is part of the observation process and everything was in the acceptable range.
May 2020 lab results showed some concerning numbers. The June 8th monthly lab test came to us electronically via email. Our fears were confirmed — relapse. June 9 we were enroute to Vancouver General to have Corey admitted via Emergency for immediate treatments. Once Corey had a room Sarah was asked to leave due to recent “COVID-19 rules”. This was difficult.
Chemotherapy was administered the same day. Wednesday, June 9 numerous tests were performed. We do not yet have a full understanding of the treatment plans ahead but from what we can gather the Team wants to transition from chemotherapy to immunotherapy. Immunotherapy targets only leukaemia cells instead of all cells (good and bad). Hopefully this is easier on his internal organs and comes with less side effects. Since admittance his WBC counts have dropped to 70 from 220 — this is a good thing.
Since we have not been able to have contact with the doctor and team yet we are feeling a little in the dark. Stem cell transplant is a topic we hear about and a “6 month treatment plan”. Many unanswered questions.
May the Lord be merciful also in this, bless the treatments and hallow the manifold calls that our family has received in the recent past.
